Literacy Video-I came up with this idea at the last second and was attempting to illustrate that there is no one definition of literacy and it can be found everywhere. If I was to do this over again I would have someone holding the camera and following me around instead of it being so stationary.

Motif Video-I chose to do my motif on shadows. I don’t like all of the shots in the video specifically the indoor ones I also wish I could have gotten only the shadows them selfs and not the object that created them. The shots I am happy with are the shadows off the tire and the shadow of the truck driving.

Aesthetic Video-I choose to do this video of my family harvesting. It’s a big part of there lives and I think it made my dad happy that I did it. I tried to represent the images that I have of when I was a kid. I’m happy with the way it came out. I wish I would have had some shots of me with my dad I think it would have had a stronger meaning. Also some of the shots were shaky and I would have liked more equipment sounds.

I wanted this to demonstrate possible alternate meanings of literacy, particularly with respect to technology.

Representing Myself

Put together on a few hours of sleep, quickly. I like Horror Movies, Halloween, and swing dancing and I tried to show that both aesthetically and with examples from my life.

This was the practice movie where we got more familar using the DV camera. We wanted to do something simple and fun. What is more simple and fun than chasing each other to class? Probably a lot of things but this is what happened and it worked out okay.

Literacy: Bathroom

Our take on literacy was again humor-based. We didn’t want to do one of those boring ones where the person is just speaking. It was a little over the top but hopefully thats what made it funny. Literacy is a lot about communication, especially when you have a need, such as going to the bathroom.

I wanted to incorporate my roommate into this after he told me the story about how he goes from the couch to his bed (the futon). That was the ultimate definition of laziness. I caught him at a bad time but I needed to film so he gave me his best. It looks like he looks before he takes his tumble, but I’m sure he didn’t want to get hurt. It turned out okay given the time frame of only 20 seconds.

This one is probably the one I like the most out of all the vidoes. It took me a while to come up with the idea but I thought of the audio first and how powerful it was and went from there. I had actually shot something else first but scrapped it when this much better idea came up. It’s kinda interesting that in life, you have to fight for each extra inch. Kinda makes sense but kinda doesn’t..

Aesthetic Writing: Cooking kalbi

Living in apartments made me want to learn how to cook for myself somewhat. Korean BBQ is very delicious and it is also easy to make. For the video, my main goal was just to make the viewer hungry seeing the meat because thats how I felt when I saw the clip. I tried to make each individual clip short and actually show a different angle or action. However, with cooking, there isn’t too much action..

Representing Self: Home is where the heart is

I am actually from New Jersey and there are obvious differences to being an out of state student as compared to being from Illinois. Travel is one of the big differences. While I’ve driven a few times (13-14 hours), I’ve mainly flown back and forth. The clip is me packing my luggage and driving to the Champaign Airport (while holding the camera). While I am in the process of going home, my mind runs through some memories of home such as friends, family, my house, etc. I tried to include things in the clips that somewhat differentiates Illinois from home such as Wal-Mart (never been one until coming here), Sonic’s (same thing), and cornfields. Also, I included little things such as my home on the weather widget on my home (Oakland, NJ) and wearing New Jersey Nets pajama pants.
